Development and Validation of a Critical Thinking Assessment-Scale Short Form

This study presents and validates the psychometric characteristics of a short form Critical Thinking Self-assessment Scale (CTSAS). The original CTSAS was composed six subscales representing components Facione’s conceptualisation critical thinking. kept same structures reduced number items from 115 in version, to 60. tested with sample 531 higher education students five countries (Germany, Greece, Lithuania, Romania, Portugal) enrolled different disciplinary fields (Business Informatics, Teacher Education, English as Foreign Language, Business Economics, Veterinary Medicine). confirmatory analysis used test new instrument reliability, internal consistency, construct validity. Both models that hypothesized factors be correlated tap into second-order factor complex concept thinking, had acceptable fit data. showed strong consistency (? = 0.969) positive correlations between skills overall scale (p < 0.05). Despite unbalanced sex distribution population (close 75% females), retained its factorial structure invariance across sexes. Therefore, shows adequate goodness stability is proposed valid reliable means evaluate monitor thinking university students.
